Laura Merciers newest eye shadow formula, called Baked eye colour comes in 6 shades.
I choose the most neural, lightest shade, Petal Pink (£18.50), which is a shimmery champagne/beige with hints of pink and peach, very pretty but not unique. I can see Black Karat being one of the most popular shades as its a charcoal with golden sparkles.
Close up of the Shadow:
The Shadow is very large in size, you get 1.8g of product. The shadow feels very smooth, lightweight and has really good pigmentation and can also be used wet.
Swatches: left is applied dry, right is applied wet
There is one slight downside for me and that's the shadows wear, I have to use an eye primer with this and even then I do get a bit of colour fade after about 5 hours.
I bought this from John Lewis
I hadn't realised that Laura Mercier had brought these ought. Seems like a bit of an odd choice for them doesn't it? It looks pretty but the fading does sound disappointing. I heard that all baked products come from a factory in Italy. I wonder if it's the same for these too?

I love the color, it's too bad it fades!
ReplyDeleteThis does look rather nice as it doesn't seem to have any chunky shimmer but I agree with Jane in that I had not expected them to jump on the baked bandwagon. Black Karat sounds interesting - I think I will have to check these out at Space NK.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this review! I was intrigued when I saw the previews online at lauramercier.com and nordstrom in the USA but the packaging just looks so cheap. It looks beautiful on you though. Thanks for the swatches + EOTD!
ReplyDeleteHi Jane,
ReplyDeleteI hadn't heard about baked products all coming from a factory in Italy and the shadow does say it was made in italy.. I agree with you, not the type of brand I would think would go for these, some of the colours were quite bright as well x
Hello Vintage Makeup,
Yes, that was a bit of shame especially as they are meant to be really long lasting.
Hi Meeta,
Yes, the shimmer is very fine and smooth, I am tempted to go back for Black Karat ;)
Hello Sabrina,
Your right about the packaging, I don't think clear lids ever look that good, not sure why they decided to change it really for these x
Hi there
ReplyDeleteThese look an awful like the Laura Geller baked shadows. Those are made in Italy too.... it's a lovely shade on you though, too bad about the wear. Perhaps layer it over a paint pot type cream shadow and see if the wear improves a bit? I tend to get alot of fallout when I apply these baked shadows but it's mostly easily cleaned up as long as the shade is light. xx jeanie
What a shame! The shade is gorgeous and seems to suit you very nicely. Like Jane, I haven't even seen these yet...I'm homebound, working on papers like mad, and will only be coming out to play after April 8. Until then, I just read blogs and drool lol

I thought that too Jeanie, they also look very much like the new CID version. I'm going to be a bit controversial and say that it looks like they haven't even re-packaged to make it *look* like a Laura Mercier product.
ReplyDeleteHi Jeanie,
ReplyDeleteThats a good idea, I'll try using it over a cream shadow. I'll have to double check the Laura Geller ones now to see if they do look similar ;)
Hi Nina,
Oh, I bet you are having fun with that then ;) roll on 8th April!Probably a good thing being homebound this month, lots of nice things coming out, have my eye on those new Chanel lipsticks and YSL eye palettes. x
Hi Jane,
You make me wonder if there is a whole load of brands with these baked products and they are all the same, I'd be very interested to know, now we just need to find someone who works in that factory ;)
