INIKA Mineral Foundation

Inika is a line of pure mineral make up. Half of the line is certified organic, all the products are vegan. Mineral ranges as a whole don't tend to appeal to me as they have caused my skin problems in the past. However, the formula's seem better now and some brands are omitting certain ingredients I found irritating such as Bismuth Oxychloride.
I bought the lightest shade Grace (£25.55), it does darken slightly on application but is just light enough for me, though probably best suited to a MAC shade 15. My mother has the next shade up called Strength and this is a good match for her, she would be a MAC shade 20/25. I thought I'd show them both together, you can see that both lean warm in tone.

It causes my skin no breaks outs nor irritation. The coverage is extremely good, you can really go full with this if you choose to.
It doesn't make me look oily/shiny but does impart a bit of radiance to the skin. I find it wears well through the day.
One thing I would say is that I do have to buff it in well over my pores (I do find this a common problem with mineral foundations though) so it is worth getting the right brush for this.
The only real drawback I have found with this is application on skin that is rather dry. I have had this for a while now but have noticed as my skin gets dryer with this colder weather, it has started looking a bit cakey/dry on me. So for the colder winter months I'll switch back to a liquid foundation.
Overall I'm very pleased and I will certainly re-buy this.

  1. I do like the look of the Inika range and would like to give it a try, although my current Lily Lolo one is serving me well at the moment.

May I ask what kabuki brush you find works well with this too? Thank you x

  2. It looks nice in your swatches. I like the idea of having vegan and organic cosmetics. I often use mineral makeup instead of liquid foundation as I find it much more convenient to apply. Thank you for the review! :)

  4. Thank so much for this review Replica. I wondered about it when I visited Content Beauty before I left, but in the end I opted for the Jane Iredale pressed mineral foundation instead. The "pressed" bit Nd the portability clinched it for me I think and I have been happy with it.
I know what you mean though, mineral mu is not for everyone. I had a disastrous encounter in the past with the Philosophy mineral foundation that turned my face into a Xmas disco glitterfest and have been distrustful ever since lol.
Have a lovely weekend hon :)

  6. Thank you so much for the review. I think I am about to embark on a little mineral foundation experiment and you have reminded me that my skin often feels dry wearing these kinds of powders. My face is quite dry already with the weather and central heating. I'll have to think how I'll manage to tackle this. Have you tried any other INIKA products out of interest? xx

  7. Hi Meeta,
I didn't get on with the Lily Lolo one, made me ichy and broke me out, shame as I know that is a popular one.
I use the Illamasqua blusher brush 1 and highlighter brush for application, as they are densely packed so seem to buff it in really well.

    Hi Makeup Magpie,
I am getting more into the organic, more ethically minded brands, I do think I overlooked them in the past.

    Hi Vintage Makeup,
I think I will be exploring it more as well :)

    Hi Nina,
Just imagining you with your Xmas disco glitterfest ;)
I was really tempted by the Jane Iredale as have seen lots of good reviews for it, but there was something in it that I thought my skin wouldn't like, I have a feeling it was algae x

    Hi Jane,
My face isn't liking this weather either, though I am finding mixing the Pai rosehip oil in with my moisturiser quite good.
The only other INIKA products I have tried are the pencil liner and loose shadow (do you remeber they come out with a magazine a while back) I really liked both and keep meaning to try more but when searching online I have come across very little in the way of real product pictures/swatches so can't really make up my mind what colours to try xx

  8. I want to try this brand, but I might wait because I also get very dry skin the winter.

  9. Hi Mary,
Yes, might be worth waiting till its less chilly, though they do a liquid foundation as well that I have seen really great reviews of :)

  10. Hii guys
I notice a few comments about dry skin this time of year and mineral powders. I have been using the Inika Primer under my powder foundation and it is fantastic. I normally suffer really bad dry skin in winter but this year my skin's been greatand the smell is fantastic, it's a really beautiful product. I notice Inika is launching on QVC tonight and they are selling the Primer cheaply, well worth trying if you ae not already using it.

    1. Hi Janey,
Thanks for the recommendation, I'd not thought to try their primer before so think I'll give it a go :)
