Lavender Lust is a very cool toned dusty purple/lavender palette, the colours do not scream pastel which is often my worry with these types of shades.
The top left is a sheer light pink with glitter, the colour pay off is good for a glitter shade though I do get quite a lot of fall out. The top right is a satin finish medium smoky violet/purple with a slight grey hue, it has very good pigment and is the most creamy/smooth of all four shades. Lower left is a lavender/white with a pink iridescent sheen. Lastly on the lower right a noticeable dryer in feel (though does not look patchy once applied) dark plum with satin finish. Its not quite pigmented enough for me to use as a liner unless I use it wet.
Overall the palette has good pigment, with a mostly smooth texture and the shades do not fade/crease when used over a primer. As a result of the colours being different depths but within the same colour family I find it limited in the looks it can create.
I've had this palette for quite a while now and though I've seen it create very pretty soft to intense purple smokey looks on other blogs, I have to concede that for me this does not work. All I can create is grey/purple murkiness as shown below (notice the glitter fall out).
So its not a love for me and I have to say that I have been going off my Tom Ford eyeshadows quite a bit recently, there is something in the finish of the overall look that it just not sitting well on me.

Aww I'm so sorry to hear this doesn't work for you! It looks really pretty in the pan, but I can see on your eyes it does lack contrast. I still don't own a TF quad, but I recently fell in love with the cream shadows! Man oh man, that's going to be the death of my wallet :)
ReplyDeleteJust be glad they don't have too many colours of the cream shadows....yet.. ;) I was interested in the cream shadows but of the newer release can't see a colourway that would be right for me, though I'd be interested if they brought out some more whch I am sure they will do (at that point I'll hear your wallet scream).
DeleteHi dear Clare! Maybe the problem is that this palette is too much "frosty" for your eyes. On your eyes I'll see well a dark turquoise in combo with the dark violet of this palette.

DeleteI will give these a try as think you are right that the addition of other shades will help. You know I don't have a green eye palette, greens always seem to make my skintone look more red for some reason x
Have you ever tried with a military green? Maybe used as an eyeliner and a violet blended along the socket-line ;)

DeleteI'm a huge fan of purples, so I'm tempted by this right off, but I can see what you mean about the lack of definition between colours. Makes me less inclined to hunt it down...
ReplyDeleteFor the money I don't think its the best option, its good that its cool toned as purple colourways can often pull quite warm but I'm sure there are more workable purple palettes out there.

DeleteI only have one Tom Ford palette in my very large eyeshadow collection but it didn't make me want to buy more. Lola raves about them but I don't find the colors to be easy enough to blend and the glitter shade always turns me off. I'm intrigued by the duos with the cream and powder but with those I'm afraid of the glitter shade too. Sorry this didn't turn into a suxcess for you, especially at his prices.
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm just not really feeling them anymore, I'm not that fond of the glitter shades either, though have been tempted by the cream/shadow duos from the summer collection. The eye shadow/blush items for the upcoming fall collection look interesting though as no glitter/shimmer in sight :)
