Its not often I wear darker eyeshadows, unless its something
a bit special, the Protect the Wolves Eye Shade Trio (£65) certainly fits the bill.
The beautifully designed
limited edition refillable palette contains three wolves head embossed
shades to create a smokey green eye look.
Midnight is a deep
black, Timber Wolf is a complex pewter with a golden
sheen and Evergreen is a cool, blackened emerald.
The finish falls more into the satin territory, pigment is really good, they
feel smooth (though Midnight feels slightly dryer to the touch) and blend/layer effortlessly.
I'm sure I've mentioned it before but I find Chantecaille shadows very good if your lids are dry or lined.
I'm really pleased with this palette, its made me feel able to wear darker shades again
without looking drained, or overly made up. The cool toned green edge is
a welcome change from the normal grey or blue smokey eye and the formula is easy to apply and the finish flattering, now what more could you ask for :)
5% from the proceeds of the Protect the Wolves Eye Shade Trio is donated to Conservation Northwest. I've reviewed the blusher and lipstick from the collection here.
Packaging/palette lid and ingredients below,
I bought this from SpaceNK
Hi dear Clare! What a pretty palette, maybe too much darker for me. But of course with such colours it is possible to create interesting shadowing. Of course, it would be interesting see this at work with pastel colours =)
ReplyDeleteKisses!
Marghe
Hi Marghe, yes it would be interesting to see how it works with more pastel colors. I was worried it would be too dark but it doesn't look over the top :)
DeleteWhat a beautiful trio! The colors certainly look beautiful on you as well. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, its a change from my normal sheer neutral types of shades.
DeleteHey Clare, thanks for the review! I really love the embossing on this one! The shades look great on you: the depth is there but not overly dark.
ReplyDeleteThanks :) I applied these lightly but I think you could go quite intense with the shades should you desire.
DeleteI was worried that this palette wouldn't have enough contrast, but it looks stunning on you! I might have to give this a second glance ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you! I think its worth you having another look, I was a bit meh about it when I swatched it in store but it looks much better on.
DeleteI really like the shades and the presentation. It is also for a good cause, so why not. I wished we had the brand here as well.
ReplyDeleteIts a real shame you don't have the brand Sara, as I can see you liking quite a lot from the range, are there any sites that will ship it out to you?
DeleteI do like that Chantecaille highlight and donote to good causes.
I'm always attracted by Chantecaille's palette and this one looks beautiful. It's great to see a review of it because Chantecaille isn't talked about very often on blogs.
ReplyDeleteTheir palettes are always enticing aren't they. Your right about the lack of blog coverage, I'm surprised really its not more talked about, best things in beauty use to post quite a bit about Chantecaille but now she doesn't post much anymore which is a shame.
DeleteLovely pictures Clare, thank you for sharing. I would like to know how the colours compare to the Elephant palette (which I have and love for Autumn looks), although I might just get it to look at anyway!
ReplyDeleteThanks Carin :) I had the elephant palette, from memory the green in that one was more muted, whereas this one is more vibrant and the black is not as deep as the one in the Wolves. I think this trio applies better as well so would recommend this one ;)
DeleteA more vibrant green - fab! That's me sold, thanks Clare! Cx
ReplyDeleteI'd love to hear how you get on with it if you do buy it :)
DeleteHi Clare, my palette arrived today, so I compared to Elephants - the green is much more smoky and not as sparkly. I love the satin finish and think the colours blend well together. With the Timber Wolf shade being a little darker than their usual taupes, I did a suitably smokey eye in moments. I love it!
DeleteThanks for coming back to me Carin, I'm so glad you like it :) Did you hear about their Himalayan Holiday Collection, no trios but the Chrome Luxe Eye Duo in Tibet sounds quite nice, warm grey and a platinum.
DeleteNo, I haven't heard about that before, but it sounds interesting. Despite having battleship grey hair, I struggle to find grey eyeshadows that are flattering - possibly because I have hazel eyes, but a warm grey sounds worth checking out, thanks Clare, Cx
