Lancome Lip Lover

The newly launched Lip Lover formula (£18) is meant to be an all in one; giving the comfort of a balm, the pigment of a lipstick and the shine of a gloss.

The packaging is quite neat as it has a little button you press which makes the applicator pop up.

The shade I bought called Beige Adage #332 is in fact not beige and instead a rather warm pink.

The pigment is good and it does have the dewy/shiny finish of a gloss but I'm not so sure about the balm like qualities which are meant to provide "eight hours of moisture". Though it has a creamy/moisturising feel, it's also a bit tacky and I'm very aware that I am wearing it, furthermore I do find my lips feel rather dry after wear.

Now I have to say that the description of Lip Lovers is extremely similar to the recent launch of Lancome's parent company, L'Oreal Paris, Color Riche L'Extraordinaire Liquid Lipstick (£8.99) with the 3 attributes listed as "colour intensity of a lipstick, magnifying shine of a gloss and the softness of a balm". Though the Lip Lovers have a far better shade range, and are a tiny bit less tacky I find the L'Oreal does not make my lips feel dry after wear.

Essentially I am not impressed with either but I think if you wanted a liquid lipstick/gloss you shouldn't discount the much cheaper L'Oreal.

I bought these both from Boots.

  1. Hey Clare, so sorry to hear you're not loving this! I tried a shade and I am rather impressed. It lasts much longer than I thought something like this would, and I find it moderately hydrating! Oh well, there are so many other formulas to love out there :)

    1. I was going to pick up two shades so am just glad I stopped at one ;) I just wish I could get the balm like qualities it was meant to have, I'm wondering if the new Dior ones are similar to these as was thinking of getting some of those when they come out so might not be the best idea.

    2. I have bought two of these Clare, I haven't road tested them properly but I had a little go with one and my initial impression wasn't amazing! We'll see I guess-I do like the colour of this one tho

    3. Hi Stacey, I do like the colour, just wish it had more of a balm like quality about it, the reviews seem more positive than negative so lets hope you like these more after more testing xx

  2. Oh both these remind me of the two Maybelline I reviewed recently only mine had a weird taste. I like the concept but I guess they are not all created equal. I too wonder about the Dior. Sorry this one didn't live up to your expectations.

    1. There seems to be quite a lot of brands bringing out liquid lipsticks at the moment, low and high end. I too like the idea of them but this didn't fit the bill completely for me.

  3. But dear Clare, you forget to mention the one thing Lip Lover has in its favour: no apocalyptically strong scent! The L'Oreals pretty much knocked me out on the floor of Boots when I tried them, lol
I am a bit 'meh' about the Lip Lovers. Nice glosses, but not the revolutionary hybrid I was hoping for (DIOR FLUID STICKS FTW).
