NARS Spring: Kauai Eyeshadow Duo

I'd been trying so hard to resist this spring duo from NARS, as though the colours of Kauai (£25) look beautiful, the high frost/metallic finish didn't quite fit with my natural every day favoured shadows.
I of course finally gave in and am pleased I did.

The duo contains an antique gold with a dense metallic finish and a medium bright purple with a iridescent/metallic finish.
Swatched below and then both shades together on the right,

Both shades apply true to pan as they are extremely pigmented/opaque, so much so that I do blend these out to get a sheerer effect. Both feel smooth, soft and creamy, blend wonderfully and last all day used over a primer.

As much as I love the texture and ease of application, the finish of these shadows is so metallic that they do verge on being just to glitzy. However, used with a light hand I do really like the finished look.

Ingredients:

I bought this from johnlewis.com

  1. Ahh I am still really tempted by this one as well, but I have the same problem: metallic just isn't my thing anymore (I'm sure I used to wear a lot of stuff that's just too shiny for me nowadays)! Still, love how the shades look AND how they look combined!

    1. I can't get away with anything too metallic/shiny anymore, mind you I find the older I get my range of colours/finishes that seem to flatter me has sadly dwindled.

  2. Oh I've swatched this one so many times but just can't take the plunge. Had they been satiny I would have gotten it by now but it's just a little too much. I love how "smooth" they look on you. :)

    1. Thank you :) I would have much preferred a satin finish as well, I do really like Nars but a lot of their collections are a bit loud for me these days.

  3. I have this and really like the purple but find that gold shade too metallic and sparkly for my 40 something lids. Mixing the colours is not something I had thought of but will give it a try. Love the texture of this duo.

    1. The texture is lovely isn't it, I do wish NARS would do things a bit less metallic, there have been a few duos come out which would have been lovely had they calmed it down a bit on the finish. Hope using them mixed together works well for you :)

    1. Thank you :) Pigment is so good on this, the purple is very pretty, though I've not been brave enough to go out sporting just that on the lid :)

  5. From looking at promo pics I expected this to be paler so I'm excited to see that the shades have much more depth - that purple is stunning!

  8. I am trying to tell myself that I don't want to deal with the rubber casing but gold and purple are hard to resist shades for me. You look gorgeous with these shades. I'm going to stay away from my NARS counter I think. :)

    1. Thank you :) I can see this duo really working for you but it might be safer to stay away from the counter as I fear you will not be able to resist ;)
