Chanel Summer Reflets d'Été: Utopia & New Moon

Slim pickings from this years Chanel Summer collection Reflets d'Été, I only purchased two of the Illusion d’Ombres.

I wasn't too sure about the colour story when I first read about it and seeing the products in person I still wasn't sure as the collection seems to lack cohesion.
Of the three shadows on offer I bought the two limited editions.

Utopia is a shimmery/metallic dusty lavender.
It goes on very smooth and blends well with a good wear time.
Shown below, Utopia swatched once then three times.

New Moon is a brown/copper with red undertones. Its jam packed full of glitter (I do get a bit of fall out).

Though the base has the same good performance of Illusion d’Ombres, the glitter particles can make it look a bit messy as they disperse a bit, so I find this works best applied over other shadows rather than on its own.
New Moon swatched once then three times.

Below is Utopia with a touch of New Moon on the centre, they don't really work together but I wanted to try them combined.

I'm not really infused; I am a fan of the Illusion d’Ombres but something about Utopia isn't hitting the mark and though New Moon it just so pretty to look at in the pot, once applied it makes me look tired.

Sadly the fall collection (which is usually my favourite release from Chanel) isn't looking up either from the lackluster reviews I've read so far, so lets hope it looks better in person.

I bought these from Boots.

  1. I passed on both of these for I don't think they would have worked for me as well as Diapason and Fatal do. I love the soft feel of transparancy on you. Maybe with a dark grey eyeliner? :)

    1. I probably should have passed, seemed a bit wrong not to get something from the collection though :) Thanks for the grey liner rec, I'll give that a try .

  2. I tested these the other day and I really liked New Moon as it blends in quite naturally so I'm thinking of getting that one. I bought the waterproof eye pencil as that is such a lovely shade for my lower lash line. The Tutti Frutti nail polish looked tempting although wasn't taken so much by anything else.

    1. New Moon is the most interesting shade of the 3, I did like the look of the eye pencil but thought it was just too warm for me. I think the nail polishes have received the best reviews from what I have read online, so maybe you need to go back for Tutti Frutti :)

  3. Hey Clare, :) I bought all three because I can't seem to resist Illusion d'ombres. I've been lucky, the New Moon I have has not caused me any fall out so far. Aw... I'm sorry New Moon didn't work out for you though.

    1. Your going to have a rather large collection of Illusion d'ombres aren't you ;)
I do like to look at new Moon in the pot, just not so much on me :)

  4. I agree. Sometimes colors like this give you those sexy bedroom eyes, but this just makes your eyes look a bit tired and teary eyed :-(

    1. Tired and teary eyed is never a good look, I was hoping it didn't look that bad with both shades used together ;)
I'll keep trying with new moon as most people seem to love it so I must be missing a trick.

  5. I haven't pick up anything from this collection, I have been thinking about the nail polishes and the cream blush but I think I'll pass on the Illusion d’Ombres :(
Agreed with you, I'm trying to get excited about the fall collection but is not happening hehe! xx

    1. The cream blush seems quite popular, when I swatched it though it just looked a muddy brown, might be my skintone though. Yes the fall is looking a bit meh, I'll probably only end up with some of the lipsticks xx

  6. I agree, the last two collections were pretty 'meh'. In general the fall collections have me a little let down this year! The only one I'm really planning on investing in is the YSL one!

    1. I like the look of the YSL as well, though think the palette might be a bit too warm. I am looking forward to the Tom Ford Fall one the most so far as the eyeshadow palette looks like my sort of shades :)
