Chanel Notes de Printemps Spring 2014: Rouge Coco in Triomphe & Rouge Allure in Melodieuse

With pink, coral brights and a mauve added to the mix, the Chanel lip offerings for this years Spring collection were not within my normal "safe" colours, however I had a "moment" and decided that yes perhaps I too could be one of those sporting a bright lip this Spring.

From the 6 shades on offer I went for the Rouge Coco in Triomphe #60 (£24) and the Rouge Allure in Melodieuse #136 (£25).

Triomphe is a coral with a touch of pink. I find the Rouge Coco formula hit and miss with some being drying and not applying as evenly as I would like, unfortunately I found this the case with Triomphe, its a shame as I really do like this brightening colour.

When I picked up Melodieuse, my head was saying don't be silly that's far too bright put it down, but alas the heart (which is often bedazzled by all things pretty, with memories of when I was young and could wear any colour I liked) won out.
I still stand by Melodieuse being a really pretty colour, but can I wear it full on, well lets just say when I applied two layers of this my husband said it looked radio active! However, I do love this bright coral/red with one coat and blotted down. Its has a satin finish with a light texture, smooth application and even, full coverage.

Overall I think these are both fun brights to wake up the complexion, but my pick would be Melodieuse for its superior texture/application.

I bought these from Boots

  1. Yaay you got them! It's hard for me to pick, as Triomphe is just easier to wear, but it's true that Melodieuse is the bomb!

    1. I give into temptation far too easily :) These are such pretty colours for spring.

  2. I picked Melodieuse last weekend and totally fell for it, using it almost everyday for work. Fortunately, my lips are quite pigmented and always tone down shades, making Melodieuse pretty wearable for me -unfortunately that means most nice lighter shades look like concealer on me :(
I also find Rouge Coco formula a hit or miss, and for that reason I only get Rouge Allure, or just pass Chanel and go for Guerlain.

    1. That's a shame that lighter shades don't work for you, I do seem to be the opposite and shades go on a lot brighter/intense on me than they do other people, its amazing how much lipsticks can vary once applied.
I really like Guerlain lipsticks as well, just wish the Rouge G packaging wasn't so bulky :)

  3. These are so pretty but they scare me a little. I haven't made up my mind yet as they are a little out of my comfort zone. :)

    1. I know what you mean, they aren't my normal sort of shades either, certainly fun colours though, I think its worth you mulling over as no point buying if they will end up sat in the back of your drawer :)

  4. Ah, you picked the 2 colors from the collection that I can't stop thinking about. Okay, truth be told, I already purchased Sonate and L'Adoree--oh, and one of the blushes--so the fact is that I've already gotten what I'm "allowed" from the collection…but I still want those 2 lipsticks. Yet I'm afraid my experience would be like yours: I wouldn't enjoy the Rouge Coco formulation (I typically don't) of Triomphe, but would find the color more wearable; and Melodieuse would be too bright for me (I wear darker colors, actually, more easily than such bright ones). Sigh. I still don't know. But your review is both helpful and tempting! (And I agree with you about the Rouge G packaging: love the formulation, hate carrying around those huge lumps of metal.)

    1. Its a tricky one isn't it, I do think you can skip Triomphe but I am liking Melodieuse more and more, though its my brightest lipstick I have.
I keep buying more from this collection, I'm going to have to space out my reviews otherwise it will turn into some strange Chanel fest :)

    1. I bet you would rock that shade! I really suck at photos applied to my lips, they always come out washed out, I really need to learn some camera skills or buy a better camera! :)
