Laura Mercier Crème Smooth Lip Colour

Quite a few brands have brought out new lipstick formula's this fall, the focus being on rich, highly saturated colours. The Crème Smooth Lip Colour are meant to give the  "ultimate in colour, texture, and finish" well you can't ask for more than that can you?

All the colours I swatched at the counter most certainly were pigment heavy and gave very good coverage. Now there is a lot of pigmented lipsticks on the market, where they usually fall down is the texture/feel, unlike a lot of them Laura Mercier's do not feel drying or drag on application (though I wouldn't go so far as to label them moisturising).
Another aspect of this type of lipstick is the weight and unfortunately I don't think these have been able to give a lightweight feel,  its not uncomfortable but there is that bit of heaviness. In terms of wear I found both colours to last well and not bleed.

I of course bought the most sedate looking colours (I'm nothing if not consistent), though the collection has some lovely reds and deeper hues.
Rosewood is a medium rose, shown below

Spiced rose is a dusty pink, which leans slightly cool, shown below,

Both shades (£20 each) have a very slight sheen in the finish.
Swatched below: left is Spiced Rose, on the right Rosewood

The case has a more sleek, less bulky looking design which I liked as it just looks a bit more modern than the normal LM lipstick packaging,
Overall I'm quite happy with these and might go back for a darker berry shade that caught my attention.

I bought these from John Lewis

  2. Hello Resham,
I think its worth having at least one in your collection :)
I was getting to the point that I was stressing out over the lip swatches, how silly is that!
I would really like to have a more fancy camera really but always seem to spend my money on cosmetics... ;)

  3. They both look really nice (Rosewood is one of those names that is always cropping up in makeup). It's odd how they look so similar in the swatches, isn't it? I imagine it's some light reflective aspect of the pigment that does it. They certainly don't look identical in the tube xx

    1. Hi Jane,
Your right about the name, most lines do seem to have a lot of rosewood going on :)
The swatches are really irking me as they don't look alike once on the lips, still I'll give it another go, it not good that its so dark now in the evenings as I used to be able to do sneaky blog pictures as soon as I got home from work xx

  5. (Ah, just a little surprise reappearing act!) These colours are so very you, I hope that doesn't sound as if I'm telling you you're boring, because I'm not :P !! By heaviness do you also mean greasiness? And which one do you prefer of the two? I think I'd go for Rosewood....or for a berry shade (yeah, I'm totally enabling you). xxx

    1. Long time no see Anna!!! Hope you and your boy are well.
They don't feel greasy, just not light weight, slight balmy feel to them which is a bit heavy, but I am being picky ;)
I think I prefer Spiced Rose, I'm sure you would have like the berry shade I saw at the counter :) xxx

  6. Can I ask how they smell? My very brief foray into LM lipsticks ended where it began as I found them to have an awful burnt rubber smell, which was a huge shame as I found the shades and textures to be infinitely wearable. Love these shades.

    1. Hi Jan,
I can see that LM would offer a lot of your type of shades. These are meant to be fragrance free, I've had a good sniff and cannot detect anything, I got my husband to smell them as well and he thought they had a slight hint of "something" but not the usual rubber lipstick smell thaat a lot of brands have (Nars springs to mind)

  7. These are both lovely shades. I have only ever had one LM lipstick, and I thought that the formula was simply outstanding. After your review, I will have to take another look at her lipsticks! Lovely review! xoxox

    1. Hi Lola,
Thanks ;) I prefer this formula to the other ones I've tried from LM, I might well pick up some more but they have the holiday sets out at the counter now so that could end up being a £££ trip :) xx

  8. Hi Replica,
I love your taste on lipstick. I love nude colors and it looks very pigmented and smooth too. I haven't tried LM lip products though, the colors that you picked makes me think I should visit my LM counter again :)

    1. Thanks Memoiselle :) I do always tend to go for the same sort of colours. I think LM are offering a lot more appealing products these days :)
