The holiday Grand Bal collection features heavily on golds and reds.
Packaging wise the lipsticks and nail polish shapes seem rather
reminiscent of the early Dior style which I was never a fan of so I went
for the eye shadow palettes which are in the normal packaging.
Today I
will show you the Night Golds (£40) palette which is the warmer of the two.
It contains a shimmery slightly frosty white, metallic golden copper (this one has rather large chunky particles and makes
the texture look uneven in the pan, though it applies smooth) a
shimmered gold beige, a shimmered yellow gold and a matte dark charcoal with gold sparkle.
Apart from the darkest shade, which has a dryer feel, the other shades
feel soft and smooth. All shades apply and blend well, with a good
wear time and no fall out.
Swatched below (I've not smoothed down the copper shade as wanted to show you the heavier texture)
Being very cool toned and not a fan of warm shadows I was pleasantly
surprised how well these worked; the cool base of the darkest shade works to keep in check the warmth of the golden shades.
An elegant way to wear a bit of shimmer/sparkle, well
done Dior.

A family member bought me this from Debenhams.

I don't know why they release such ordinary combinations as something eztraordinary, really... The shades are beautiful, but in no way festive, to me...
ReplyDeleteHi Eli,
DeleteIt does seem that a lot of brands go for golds for the holiday season, I do realy like the shades in this though, but then I don't tend to buy these sorts of colours :)
Wow you got this palette! I saw the swatches online too and thought the pigmentation was really wow. I will passed on this one because it looks pretty similar to the fall collection.
ReplyDeleteHi memoiselle,
DeleteThe pigment is really good, I think I have read elsewhere that a lot of people thought this similar to a previous Dior release not too long ago, you'd think they would space it out a bit :)
Thank you! You are the first person, who make this palette look incredibly nice. I was wondering about the texture, usually, I don't really like Dior e/s - too dry and frosty. I have hopes now and definetly going to swatch this palette. This golden copper shade is especially nice and something I don't have in my collection yet. / Claire
ReplyDeleteHi Claire,
DeleteI'm glad its been of help :) I would say that only the darkest shade feels a bit dry and in terms of frostiness (which I find Dior are very prone to) its only the white shade. Well worth a swatch :)
It looks lovely on you! I'm really interested in the other palette yet I haven't picked it up yet just because it doesn't seem all that unique.
ReplyDeleteHi Perilously Pale,
DeleteThank you :) I will report back on the other palette once I've tried it some more, but it might well be similar to other shades you have, mind you I did buy it just for the bottom left shade initially ;)
I was so close to buying at least one of these but I bought Golden Savannah not that long ago. These are just beautiful though.
ReplyDeleteHi Marcia,
ReplyDeleteI was surprised how much I like this, I'm not as keen on Fairy golds though, its a bit too frosty.
the verdict is out, you were right the raeview was wrong went to the store yesterday and tried both the palettes this one was the absolute winnar my mom and the sales lady agreed. Thanks for the review it definately helped me!
ReplyDeleteHello Nawi,
ReplyDeleteWe must share the same taste in our makeup :) I'm really glad the review helped. I notice at the stores near me that the night golds is the one that sold out first so must be popular :)
