Burberry Holiday 2013: Trench Kiss Lip Mist

I confess that I couldn't resist the limited edition gold packaging from the Burberry Holiday collection.

The collection consists of four items with only the gold nail polish being new. Trench Kiss #216 lip mist (£22.50) is a lot paler than I was expecting. Its a flat beige, with a slight warm tone and applies like a wash of pale foundation on the lips.

I find the lip mist formula balmy in texture with good hydration/moisturising abilities, however trench kiss shows up lip lines and any dryness.

I knew this would be a difficult shade for me to wear but I wasn't quite expecting it to be so unforgiving. I think the sheerness of this is its saving grace, so as long as I prep my lips well and put on one swipe then layer with a gloss I do get a ultra nude lip that works.
Swatched below with four swipes,

However I'm one for thinking a product shouldn't require effort to make it work so ultimately this is a miss for me. Nevertheless, I don't want to convey negativity on the actual colour of this, as this really is a true beige, which I know a lot of people seek. I guess I am so use to seeing nude shades with hints of other colours like pink or peach, so when faced with the reality of what a true beige nude is, I was taken aback.
Ingredients:

I bought this from http://uk.burberry.com  I should mention they have a lot of products that are not in stock from other online sites and the delivery was really quick (within 24 hours) and the products packaged really well.

    1. I love the gold as well :) I'm surprised they picked this shade really to have a re-issue for the holiday collection as its not the easiest shade to wear.

  2. Oh this one would probably do nothing for my skintone but I love the details of the bullet. Gorgeous packaging. :)

    1. I just couldn't resist, but agree that its not a flattering colour. I have found better use for it by using ii over the top of a bright or deeper lipstick, it seems to work well over reds.

  3. Eeeek! Nudism aside, I really appreciate your comments on the formula -- the original lip mists were pretty drying on me, so this sounds like one to avoid.

    1. Indeed, this is nude to the extreme :) I'm not sure what I was thinking really, still its nice applied over deeper shades, it seems to pair well with By Terry Narcotic Sienna.

  4. Hey Clare, I saw the holiday collection and sadly nothing appealed to me. Everything was too nude or pale for me to wear. I'm sorry it didn't work out for you too, what a bummer!

    1. Hi Jacqueline,
I am getting quite a bit of use out of it paired with other shades, but as a standalone colour its somewhat a no go, I think its a strange colour to bring out again, guess they wanted something to go with the gold holiday theme but they might have been best creating a new shade :)

  5. I wish I could pull off nudes, but they really just don't look good on me! I have dark hair & eyes, but pale skin so nudes wash out what little color I have on my face tehe! Great post as always

    1. Thanks ;) Nudes are so difficult, I usually have to have a good dose of pink with mine to make them wearable.

  6. I must say that a name like "Lip Mist" would entice at least a visit. Sadly this shade is a tad on the "american tan" scale of nudity. Like the overall attention to detail though, sadly I cannot justify purchasing a lipstick just to look at it occassionally!

    1. Love the american tan description :) Its not a suits all shade at all, I do love the lip mist formula usually though, I got the new Rosewood lip mist one as well and think that would be more your type of shade :)

  7. How disappointing! It SHOULD be moisturizing-- it sounds like a total miss! Were you at all tempted by any of the Oxblood lippies? Happy New Year! xoxo

    1. Happy new year to you too :)
I was tempted by the lip mist in Oxblood but it was sold out but I think I will get it next time I order if it reappears, I got the rosewood one which is really nice, I prefer it to the lip cover version.

    1. Hi Marcia,
Its not the easiest shade, so much better to use it layered with other shades.

  9. This looks like a concealer to me. I stopped buying Burberry last Spring. They are overrated; they are the Emperor's new clothes.

    1. It does go into concealer territory doesn't it. For the most part I really like the Burberry range :)

  10. I was a little shocked when I swatched this in store too...was definitely a true beige as you say!! Looked like the death on me, but I'm sure some out there will love, especially with the LE packaging :-)

    1. Its not one of those universal shades it is, I think that a bit of pink to the mix would have gone down well, I am mostly using this paired with other shades :)
