By Terry Holiday 2013: Ombre Blackstar in Ombre Mercure

The golden silver/pewter shade of the #15 Ombre Mercure (£27.50) from this years Holiday collection, immediately called to me.

I am a big fan of the Ombre Blackstar's, however Mercure has left me somewhat underwhelmed. It does have the same creamy texture, non drying feel and high pigment I'd expect from this formula, however there is something about the application and wear of this which is different. Its, dare I say, a bit patchy and blending it to an even finish is not so achievable. Nor does it have the normal long lasting finish of my other Ombre Blackstar's (even with a base I get creasing after a few hours as shown below).

The colour however is undeniably beautiful, the golden silver/pewter tones can take on a more taupe or even green hue depending on the lighting and the finish is shimmered boarding on metallic.

Swatched below and then blended in

Its always a bit odd when you buy a formula you have always rated to find it not performing as you'd expect, I guess all I can say is proceed with caution if you are eyeing this up.

I bought this from http://uk.spacenk.com

  1. Aww I'm so sorry to hear the formula isn't quite up there! This is a shade I'd be drawn to as well. I haven't tried these, but I've always wanted to. I guess I'll let this one pass though!

    1. Yes, probably best to pass this shade, I love the other ones I have though, so do still think they are worth trying :)

  2. I've been wanting to try an ombré blackstar Clare. I'm so sorry this one didn't work out for you. I would be very disappointed too as I expect the same kind of product to have the same quality. Which are the shades you like by the way? I want to check them out too.

    1. The shades I really like are Blond Opal (this is good to use with powder shadows over the top), Frozen quartz and there is a really nice taupe one my mum has called misty rock :)

  3. Darn darn!!! Totally agree...disappointing when you think you are buying something you will love since you've used other colors before :-( Thanks for the warning...I'll stay away...wonder if there will be any new spring colors? I do love the other ones I have!

    1. I gave this to my mum and it wears better on her, no idea why as its not like I even have oily eyelids. I've not seen mention of their spring collection but will do a search, I assumed they are bringing out all new eyeshadows in the terrbly range as seem to have the regular ones on sale at the moment
